A meteorite has been discovered in northern France near the city of Dieppe, which is most likely a fragment of asteroid 2023 CX1.

The space rock had entered the atmosphere over this region three days ago, you can read about it in the link below.

Members of the Fripon / Vigie-Ciel group, which is engaged in observations of fireballs, discovered the fragment.

The find was made a few hours after the start of the search, the initial analysis confirmed that this was indeed a meteorite.

Asteroid 2023 CX1, about a meter across, was discovered on the night of February 13, about five hours before it entered Earth's atmosphere.

The data on its trajectory made it possible to determine the area of the future fall, and amateur astronomers were able to shoot the fireball that flashed in the sky.

The number of cases when astronomers managed to detect an asteroid before the fall still does not exceed a dozen.

The last such event occurred in November 2022, when the asteroid 2022 WJ1 was discovered, which then fell in Canada.

However, in this new case, the time and place of the fall were predicted in advance.

This allowed amateur astronomers to observe the flight of the fireball and take pictures.

Some of those images were shared on social media, although many could only see a flash of light behind the clouds.

In total, about 40 people reported their observations - residents of Normandy, Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands.
