Chaos

Chaos reigns in my heart,
I do not know up from down,
The moments we are apart,
My soul seeks to drown.

It seeks its death,
A million days before its time,
"Please just take my breath,
I've committed a pernicious crime."

"I've hurt the one I swore to love,
I valued her below her worth.
I want to take myself far above
This desecrated earth."

"Perhaps in heaven I won't be restless,
My chaos will come to an end,
Perhaps by drowning in a river crestless,
Her own soul she can start to mend."

Though I press my soul to stay alive,
And seek to give it hope,
Hindering my drive to live
is an upward slope.

I must protect her at all cost,
For she is of exceptional worth,
I cannot count my soul as lost
Floating from this desecrated earth.
