In Indonesia alone, it was explained that the number of internet users in the country reached 132 million people. This number shows that half or more than 50 percent of Indonesia's population can access the internet. While in the same report described from hundreds of millions of internet users in Indonesia, 60% percent have accessed the internet using smart phones (smartphones).

Not only in terms of increasing access, but also from the duration of using the internet. Wearesocial reports that the world average uses the internet for six hours per day to access the internet through various devices. If this duration is multiplied by the number of world internet users, then the duration of internet usage by all people on earth can reach more than 1 billion hours to go online in 2018.
Indonesia in terms of internet usage time is ranked fourth in the world with an average duration of using the internet for 8 hours 51 minutes every day. Indonesia only "lost" from Thailand which has a duration of 9 hours 38 minutes, then the Philippines 9 hours 29 minutes and Brazil with 9 hours 14 minutes. Indonesia's ranking exceeds developed countries such as Singapore which have an average duration of 7 hours 9 minutes, China 6 hours 30 minutes, the United States 6 hours 30 minutes and Germany 4 hours 52 minutes.

The use of the internet is dominated by socializing activities in cyberspace. It is proven by the large number of social media users in the world, reaching 3.196 billion users. Indonesia in terms of the number of social media users reaches 49% percent of the population of internet users or almost half of internet users in Indonesia have social media. In terms of the growth of social media users themselves, Indonesia is the third largest country with a growth rate of 23% or 24 million users in the past year.

This is proven by two cities from Indonesia occupying the position of two cities with the largest number of Facebook users in the world. Namely Bekasi with 18 million users and Jakarta with 16 million users. Although, this amount also needs to be questioned because it does not reflect the actual population. Because the Bekasi population itself is currently based on BPS, it still reaches 2 million people. While Jakarta is considered to have a population of 9 million.

Still about social media, Indonesia also occupies one of the largest countries using one of the world's most popular social media, Instagram. Indonesia, in the ranking of Instagram users, reaches 53 million, meaning that almost all smart phone users in Indonesia are Instagram users. In this case, Indonesia ranks third in the world after the United States, and Brazil.
From the large number of social media users, we begin to see how long the internet users interact to interact via social media. Again Indonesia occupies one of the world's highest rankings with a duration of social media use of 3 hours 23 minutes. This duration when compared to the average total number of people using the internet for Indonesians, Indonesians allocate almost 30% of their time to social media.

But apart from the proud data about the digital world in Indonesia. The GSMA Connectivity Index explains that Indonesia is still at 52.7 from the maximum index number of 100. So that puts Indonesia in the average below the world. Indonesia is even considered to be less superior compared to ASEAN neighboring countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand and Singapore.

There are several things in the index that must be able to be improved by the Indonesian people and the government. Such as the affordability of high-speed internet infrastructure.
