Glen Cunningham Lake- The Perfect Place For Adventure

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Today I took Nietzsche and my Canon to Glen Cunningham Lake. This is another gem right outside of the city proper.

I have a couple of friends that come out here annually to camp and I have camped here with them on a couple of occasions. One of those times we floated the lake on an air mattress, which was quite fun. We used it as our swimming platform for the kids. This was done in the off season and I am sure we would have been scolded by any Rangers that may have encountered us.

Cunningham Lake is a 'no-wake' lake, meaning no motorized boats going above five mph allowed. This makes the lake perfect for swimming, fishing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking.

The recreation area offers on top of the above a Frisbee Golf Coarse, trails for horseback riding, hiking and biking and camping area, which can accommodate 50 RV's and tent camping.

Today we had a special treat. A few teenager's brought out their Paragliding equipment and I was able to catch one of their take-offs.

There were also many people out on the lake ice fishing, which with the warmer weather we have been experiencing was a bit courageous.

I was using my Canon T7i 800D for all my shots and video with the 55-135 mm lens attached. This was my first time capturing video with the Canon on a fast moving target. All in all, I wasn't impressed. The pictures from the 55-135mm lens were not as crisp as those from the 18-55mm lens.

While it was able to focus in consistently, it also consistently went out of focus. I also own a couple cheaper sports camera's, which maintain consistent focus throughout the recording, they do not have the ability to zoom in like the Canon can, but maintain a constant focus. So, the Canon is not a replacement for a GoPro.

I am glad to have gotten this experience using the camera, since I am super new to photography. I have never owned a camera, which has cost more than $100 before purchasing this one. I am a complete novice Photographer and Blogger and am loving the learning process.

Now I know the Canon is NOT a one size fits all device and when capturing the open road from my vehicle on future trips, I'll be using my Old Shark Sports Camera or my No Name 1080HD Barrel Sports Camera. The Barrel Camera will be my go to for trail walking. I'll have to do a review on this camera in the future.

The Old Shark Sports Camera boasts 4K quality video and a 20mp still photo, but it over-saturates the colors and does not capture high light scenes very well, so is not ideal in many conditions.

Each time I create a post, which critiques a product, I'll include links to other posts that do the same. This way you are able to get a more full impression for future consideration. If I ever come across a little extra spending money, I may purchase a Nikon D5400 or higher quality and do side by side comparisons, but don't hold your breath. I am pretty sure when I decide to upgrade again, a Canon will not be the product I choose.

Here is an earlier post where I test the Canon T7i.
