Love at First Nyonya Bites - Tasteem Review
Hi Tasteemers!
Today I would like introduce a traditional foods of Nyonya! Nyonya are the descendants of Chinese Immigrants during the 17th centuries who came to Malaysia and now they referred to as Baba-Nyonya.
The unique of Nyonya cuisine are popular by using typical Malay spices especially their dish called Asam Laksa.
How I found this restaurant?
On that night when we were walking around “Soho Riverson - The Walk” looking for a place to dine where we staying, and that was late for dinner and we got no idea what to eat. Then we passing by this restaurant and what attracted us was the food banner right in front of the entrance. So we just give a try of “Baba-Nyonya” cuisines.
Most of the restaurants at Riverson closed at early hours. Operating hours from 9am - 8pm daily (Malaysia Time)

The Inside
The sitting arrangement may look simple and not much crowd due to late hours when I get into the restaurant.
The environment is clean, staffs are friendly and the restaurant is not noisy. Maybe is because they're not many customers! Sometimes I prefer to have a quiet place for a meal especially if is a good meal.
The Menu
The menu comes with pictures which are really attracted me and makes me craving for all the dishes.
The selection of foods and drinks were not too bad. It was either in the set or a-la-carte.
Let’s check it out the menu!
Here goes my order
When comes to Nyonya cuisine, a must have is their Assam Pedas Fish Head. So we ordered one of that which the portion is enough for 2 and the 2nd dish we ordered something which is not spicy due to my junior can't handle any spicy food.
A-la-carte: Asam Fish Head
Set Meal: BBQ Chicken with Rice
Drinks: Cold Lime with Sour Plum
Drinks: Hot Milo
Foods & Drinks Rated
Nyonya cuisine is a fusion of Chinese and Malay food.
The dish of Asam Pedas Fish Head (Sour and Spicy) is delicious. The fish has the combination of veggies (brinjals, eggplants, okra & tomatoes). The not so spicy but tasty that so appetite after my first spoon of the curry stew and I was instantly hooked. The fish is fresh from the sea and it is not frozen.
This Asam Pedas Fish is very appetizing and addictive. With the combination with rice, I can guarantee you will end up eating lots of rice.
The BBQ Chicken is one of the nice tender dishes as well. The boneless chicken is well marinated and the cook was absolutely skilled. The chicken is crisp when were served. Thumbs up to the chef!
The cold lime drink is not just an excellent thirst quencher or appetizer drink but it goes well with spicy food. I like how they make this drink. They are using fresh calamansi lime and mixed with sweet-salty sour plum. The taste is really good.
My junior loves the hot milo that prepared by them. As he said the milo is ”kow” (in Malaysia slang described as heavy or strong). Delicious is all he can explain!
The Bill
The amount I paid is worth trying and no regret! All I can say is value for money.
Conclusion
This restaurant didn't have much Nyonya feels architecture. Just a simple decoration and decent lighting from the ceiling but all I can say the food tasted great with reasonable & affordable price. The service crew is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend to whom that craving for Nyonya cuisine at an affordable price.
