SLC | S22W1 : Learning Through Play
Hello dear steemian friends, it's great that we can continue the Steemit Learning Challenge (SLC) course in Season 22 Week 1, hope you all enjoyed this week's course materials.
In the previous meeting we have known many learning methods, of the many methods there is one of the most effective learning methods to encourage learning to be more interesting and fun, namely the method of learning while playing. So in this week's meeting we will specifically discuss this topic.
👨🏫 Introduction
Have you ever thought or realized that the average child or student quickly feels bored following the subject matter, this makes them unable to properly understand the subject matter delivered by the teacher.
Imagine why children can feel at home for a long time when playing gadgets or their favorite games? of course because they are playing exciting, challenging and interesting games on their gadgets.
Likewise in learning, teachers are expected to be able to create an interesting learning atmosphere that makes students feel at home for long following the lessons taught.
This is what is expected in a learning activity, how to create a learning atmosphere that can make children constantly want to learn the material or topic presented by the teacher, just like when they are playing.
🤷♂️ Learning through play
Learning through play is a learning method that combines learning activities with play activities, how exciting is that? The goal is to make the learning process more fun and interesting so that children can more easily understand the subject matter. Of course, to create learning activities while playing requires creativity from the teacher who teaches the subject itself.
Objective:
Stimulate more active, interesting and fun learning
Make it easier for students to understand the material and concepts taught
Increase students' enthusiasm in learning and foster deeper curiosity
Improve memory of learning materials
🙅♂️ Things that need to be considered
👉 1. Clear learning objectives
Specific objectives of the game, determine what objectives are expected from the game, for example students understand units of time, students understand the importance of maintaining body hygiene and others.
Adjust to the age of the students, the game must be relevant according to the age of the students, not too difficult and easy to play.
👉 2. Careful planning
Choose games that are relevant to the learning material, games must be in accordance with the learning theme taught by the teacher, try to relate the game to daily activities and life.
Prepare the materials and tools needed, some games require materials and some games do not require materials, therefore prepare everything completely so that the implementation of learning can succeed as expected.
Make the rules of the game, the teacher must be able to describe how the game will take place during the process of learning activities from start to finish, therefore make the rules of the game clear and easy to understand, add what prizes will be given to the winning group and educational punishments that must be received by the wrong group.
🙋♂️ Learning-by-play practices
In developing learning activities while playing there are games that require tools and there are also games that do not require tools, in learning practices it takes a touch of creativity from the teacher so that learning is more enjoyable and learning objectives can be achieved, here we provide examples and practices in the implementation of learning activities:
👉 Does not require tools
- Playing clapping, teachers can also design learning by playing clapping hands or other limbs, done simultaneously by students to create the same sound.
- Singing, to make it easier for students to memorize or remember the lesson material the teacher can also invite students to sing the lesson material by changing a song lyric.
- Role-playing, for example, the teacher assigns children to play the role of a doctor, a teacher, a waiter, or others.
- Guessing games, such as guessing words, guessing pictures, or guessing sounds.
👉 Requires tools
- Board games such as snakes and ladders can also be applied in learning activities, for example the teacher can prepare a large dice and the classroom floor as a game board, on each box where students step there is a question paper that must be filled with short answers.
- Games in the form of cards, students can learn by playing cards, for example learning to compose words using letter cards or learning math with number cards.
- Other media: Dolls, cars, leaves, stones, soil, water, cardboard, bottles, or newspapers can also be used as learning materials.
📋 Your assignment
1. In your opinion, is this learning through play method effective in a learning activity? (1 point)
2. Create your own version of a game that is useful for learning activities? Explain specifically how to play the game.
-Game without using tools (2 points)
-Game with tools (2 points)
3. Share photos and videos as you try out a game you've created at home or share as you do it with your students? (4 points)
4. What do you feel after trying the game, is it effective for the subject you teach? (1 point)

Greetings professor @miftahulrizky
Is this course only for teachers who practice the profession?
I think that question 4 could be very limiting for people like me who would like to participate but are not classroom teachers?
Perhaps it could be rephrased more generally!
This contest can be entered by anyone even if they are not a teacher. The purpose of this contest is to provide teacher education to many people.
I don't think there is a problem with question number 4, it depends on what subjects you teach your children at home or your friends at work? So the teacher function is actually everywhere.
I understand.
Thank you very much for your guidance.
I'll be here.

I now live in a place where everyone is my age. It would be difficult for me to find a student here. But I have a lot to teach through play, but I don't have any students. Since I stay in a hostel with friends. Is there any alternative way for me to participate in this case?
Hello my friend, good to know that you are interested in participating in this week's learning challenge.
Your case relates to task number 3, for this task there are two alternatives, you can try or simulate the game you have created at home without students.
Also, you can be a teacher for your younger sibling who has learning difficulties at home, or you can be a teacher for your coworkers at the office? So the teacher function is everywhere.
Hopefully the answer I gave can help, we can't wait to read your participation post.
I am happy to receive your excellent feedback. 🙂
