Touchdown in London
Bidding Brussels farewell, I looked forward to some more dining, exploring and general travel antics. What better way to continue my journey than to stop by the city of London! The UK has always given me some of my fondest memories and I love the city life in which there is so much heritage and diversity. The people of London are a mixed bunch, the weather isn’t always pleasant but it is indeed a beautiful city with many hidden gems that are waiting to be discovered.
Arriving in the late night, the wind could be felt as a light breeze. Surprisingly it wasn’t raining for once! I was instantly reminded by some of the reasons I love to frequent the capital, its scenic city walks. London is a busy place indeed and perhaps everyone is in a hurry to get things done or they are just running late because of delays on the underground. In the later hours of the evening however, things are dramatically different. The city workers might be putting in overtime but the street are tranquil. Taking a walk by the waters is probably one of my favourite past times. It’s relaxing and perhaps an even sensual escape from the city without even taking a step away from it.
The city was quiet tonight and I was able to wonder round and absorb my surroundings. A boat down the Thames would have been the perfect way to settle into the city tonight but alas, a tranquil walk would suffice. The leaves were falling here too and had been swept to one side. The busy commuters probably took no notice of them as they hurried to the office. For a moment through my camera, the sky appeared amber. I thought to myself that this is probably London’s way of warming up to me and saying “Welcome”.
Tired from my travel, I decided that it was time to head to my quarters and get ready for dinner. London is full of amazingly tasty food and I was on a quest to sample some of the fine dining it had to offer on this trip. I can still remember my first time in London, getting to grips with the train system and mimicking the announcement of “Mind the gap”. It was finally time to explore this city again and I could feel excitement building up.
