Why you should write 250 words a day?

in #writing7 years ago

If you are like me, you probably spend time working long hours, and free time is spent working out, Netflixing or other fun activities. Who has the time to write! Found a few interesting points why one should write regularly. Besides the golden rule of making it a habit, a good habit works for you. It is kind of the invisible thread that makes your life better. Good sleep, exercise, healthy diet, and writing. All good habits.

You should be writing at least 250 words a day, come what may. Why? —
Knowledge: if you write consistently, it will be on a topic that you know. Typically your work or passion . But writing will force you to research ideas, concepts and information about your subject that you may not have bothered with before. You will notice that your original level of knowledge of your subject before writing was sub 2%. Writing will scale it 5–50x — Clarity. Most authors write for themselves. Or maybe they realise that after years. Writing is a meditation. It brings the writer more clarity than the reader. It’s the best way to help yourself via a public fora!

— Connectivity : If you write bite sized, snacks content, you will begin to attract zillions of readers — most of whom you will have NEVER met otherwise. To make “contacts”, write. Parties, Ivy League halls and conferences don’t even come near. — Contribution. As you age, your ability to go out of your way to help people will diminish. Gyaan Daan (the gift of knowledge) is the most sacred. That’s why you remember most of your school teachers so fondly today. Your keyboard can make you immortal. Sort:

If you don't write regularly, 250 words sound like a lot. Until you see them on a printed page and you realize each line holds between 8 and 12 words. Then you think, that's not much. That could be doable. Until you start. And stare at a blank page or a screen for 2 hours. You tell yourself, okay, 150, or better, 100 words. Then, 50? 25? 10...0

I guess you have a point. I heard in a Tim Ferris podcasts that you should start with a goal which you cannot fail. Example: instead of 50 push ups you do 1 push up. But when you do 1 push up, you end up doing more. So definitely agree. 250 words is an arbitrary number, kind of just enough to pen a few coherent thoughts or ideas. Perhaps start with a Tweet a day.
