Today's Weed News For October 30th 2018 #CREDITCARDS
For today's weed news we go to America's northern border.
Ever since Canada announced that it would be legalizing weed, there have been many warnings from the US government about people involved in cannabis entering the United States.
And now, it seems that simply having made a legal cannabis purchase using your Visa or Mastercard in Canada could be enough to be denied entry to the US, or at least get to spend a few extra hours at the border explaning yourself.
You see, after 9/11, the United States passed something called the Patriot Act of 2001. And this act gave the American government the authority to request in-depth information about the backgrounds of anyone trying to enter the United States. This even includes people's credit card purchase history!
Apparently, being involved in illegal acts (as defined by the United States government) is enough to receive a lifelong ban from getting into the US.
Now, if someone's credit card purchase history shows that they use their card to buy legal cannabis in Canada online for example, that could qualify as an illegal act as defined by United States authorities.
This logic seems rather flawed if you ask me, especially if one considers that places like Ontario for example only permit online cannabis purchases using credit cards as payment.
You're basically creating a situation where there is no okay way to get your legal weed online without making the American Border Patrol mad.
I feel like this could be big opportunity for some cryptocurrency solutions to step in. If you could pay for your online purchases with crypto, (especially if you use an anonymous wallet, or at least one that's not directly linked to your name) it would, in my opinion be much more difficult for US authorities to know about.
But really, I feel like America just needs to stop the bullshit. There are probably more Americans living in states where recreational weed is legal then there are Canadians in all of Canada. Does putting up all these stupid hurdles really make sense?
I don't know. But I do think that stupid roadblocks like not letting law abiding Canadians visit America are just the last death throws of the out-dated, failed War on Drugs.
