They come in the evening
The little beggars
My children love
to feed them
and enjoy the fun.
Listen to the funny excited
sounds they make
as they talk to each other.
The children like to
watch them waddle
this way and that.
It's fun to watch
There is something
attractive about them.
Round beaks, small eyes.
webbed feet, fat bodies
covered with feathers.
My children watch them intensely
studying their every move.
Laughing as they toss corn to them
The pushy one out front
the challenging one
the slow one in the back.
Little beggars grateful
for something to eat.
And a safe place to live.
They are like children.
