Ham bread, typical Christmas dish in Venezuela
Hello friends, after a long time I come back with a food post, I usually made a weekly post of food but now in my country there is a serious problem with gas and we all know that preparing food in the oven consumes a lot of gas, well without further ado I will show a famous Christmas meal in Venezuela, the delicious ham bread, this bread should not be missed in the Christmas dinner, it was the favorite gift when the visits were made to family and friends at Christmas. I think I will see in the my grandmother's house more than 6 ham loaves at the time of abundance, currently due to the economic situation and that is not possible.
For the first time use a mixer to knead and I think it is very good, so one saves time and effort since the complicated of the bakery is the kneading, at first I thought that the best was the manual kneading but then I thought of the bakeries bread is delicious and they obviously use machines for kneading, so I recommend using a mixer.
Ingredients
- 500g of wheat flour
- 80g butter
- 1 egg
- 250 ml of milk
- 80g of sugar
- 1 spoon of vanilla
- 7g of dry yeast (granulated)
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- 400g smoked ham
- 250g of bacon
- Raisins and olives to taste
Process
We activate the yeast by adding it in 100 ml of warm milk together with a tablespoon of sugar and a tablespoon of wheat flour, mix and let stand 15 minutes, after that time we will see that the mixture formed a layer of foam so we know that the yeast is in good condition
In a bowl of the mixer we add the rest of the ingredients, flour, egg, salt, vanilla, the mixture with the yeast, milk and butter (preferably melted so that it is easier to mix) put in the mixer the kneading blades and we let it work 15 minutes.
- Then we remove, form a sphere with the club and place it in a large bowl with a little flour spread to let it rest for an hour, after the time elapsed you can see that the dough doubled its size.
Now proceed to remove the excess air from the dough and knead for a couple of minutes, then divide the dough into two equal portions (two loaves will come out), and with the help of a rolling pin proceed to flatten the dough in a rectangular shape, if you do not have perfectly rectangular, do not worry, with a knife cut the excesses and the leftover dough we will use to make the decoration of the bread
After having the flat and rectangular dough we proceed to add what will be the filling of our bread, put 3 ham and at the junction of each line add a bacon, then add the raisins and olives to your liking, I do not I like the olives a lot so do not add them, then we proceed to roll and make sure that at the end there is enough space so you can close the bread properly, then decorate with the piece of dough that we cut and ready, cover it with a cloth and leave stand for 1 hour.
- After I have rested one now I noticed that increase in size, there we varnished it with egg yolk mixed with a little milk.
- With the preheated oven we proceed to place our bread at 180 ° C for about 30 minutes, soon after this bread in the oven began to perceive an exquisite aroma that will only be the preamble, when we remove it we hope it cooled a bit and to eat has been said.

Gracias, esta receta se adapta a nuestra crisis. Antes lo compraba de hojaldre y que fuera grande y pesado y sabroso. La fotografía esta buenísima.
