A Super Typhoon Destroyed Hong Kong Seriously In Few Hours. The Strongest & Most Powerful Typhoon Ever.
Last Sunday(16th September), Hong Kong experienced a horrible day and it is totally damaged because of the Typhoon Mangkhut (山竹). And so far since I was born, it was the biggest, strongest and craziest typhoon hit Hong Kong. Airport was closed, at least 889 flights cancelled, People who live on the islands were forced to moved out to avoid any injuries and deaths.
Many people described that Hong Kong is a blessing city and paradise - all large-scale disasters like earthquake, tsunami etc never happen and probably they won't happen in the future either. Just sometimes has typhoon come visit us in summers. I believe so. That's why we always said we are 'spoiled Hongkongers.' At the same time,it means we don't have enough sense about emergency response system to protect this beautiful city. We all underestimated how destroyed this typhoon brought us.
First the typhoon hit The Philippines first and damaged the country so bad then moved to Hong Kong in one day. News and government kept reminding us that Typhoon Mangkhut will be the strongest typhoon that we ever had. I had to back to Hong Kong from Vancouver one day earlier before the HK airport closed. We live in a village in Hong Kong so my dad had to cut the trees above our house before the strong wind came in order to protect our family.
The windows of this business building were broken and the pieces of glasses all fell down on the ground. Papers from the offices were flying around in the air.
My friend lives close to that business building and this is how the streets looked like after the typhoon gone.
The typhoon came fast and left fast. The second day people still needed to go to work as the government cancelled all the typhoon signals and warning. Imagine. How possible to go to work when all the trees fell down on the streets and rails? Public transportation couldn't resume normal service at all. Employees no guts to say no to the boss that they were unable to go to work. The government didn't care about the people and did nothing to assist us. Screw up.
This is the closet main bus station next to our home.
What we could do is help our city by ourselves. How strong Hong Kong people are that you can't imagine. My dad and his friends took a day off clear the roads outside the village and assist the cleaners and firemen. They(parents with kid/adults), as the volunteers, did so much to make the city back to normal when outsiders said Hong Kong people are coldblooded who don't care about their own city.
Even though Metro system(we called MTR) was broke down, HongKongers know what is discipline when everyone were rushing to go to work.
I am so proud to be a HongKonger. When Chinese government tries to take over Hong Kong more and more, how the culture and morality conflicts are getting worse. Hong Kong is a very amazing and beautiful city and I love this place. It's so sad to always see how others live in our city without basic respects. When some visitors said Hong Kong is full of shxt now, I always told them is not because of us obviously because - We always try our best to protect and fight for our city, the place I was born.
God bless Hong Kong. I know Hong Kong people is getting stronger and stronger to protect our own city from now on!
With love,

Oh my goodness... In Malaysia we only felt the tailwinds and nothing close to the wrath you all felt in HK. Glad to hear the community is all pulling it together to pickup the pieces.

Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.
