Photochain Challenge Edition 75 - Eggs And Red

Once again, this is a post to promote this very exciting and creative contest, the PhotoChain Challenge, hosted by @davidesimoncini. This week is the 75th Edition and it has been nothing but fun and thrill all along. Learn more about this contest that brings out the creativity in you. Last week in Edition (Round) 74th, the two winners, @xiao-aine and @bluelavender, chose EGGS and RED, respectively as their personal keyword. This means for this week, which is Round 75th, all participants must enter a photo that shows these two objects, EGGS and RED.

When I learned about these two keywords I was so excited. Why? Because in my country, Red Eggs are as common as white eggs. Any supermarket or grocery or makeshift market sell these. In fact, I just had red eggs for dinner tonight.

Shown here are 2 red eggs and a red ripe tomato on a plate. For those who don't know, Red Eggs are actually salted eggs which are dyed red to differentiate them from white eggs. They are made by curing duck or chicken eggs in brine or burying them in salty clay mud. After curing they are dyed red to distinguish them from regular eggs. They are a delicacy in our country, the Philippines.

They can be eaten on their own or added to pasta, meat, crisps, puto, bibingka, siopao and hopia. They can also be used in salads like what I had for dinner.

And what the salad looked like. Ingredients are tomato, red eggs and olive oil. Yum yum yummy.

Just to show how plentiful and available red eggs are, below is the egg section of one of the bigger supermarkets here in our city.

Even in small makeshift markets, called talipapa or palengke here in our country, red eggs proliferate.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. So in honor of this day, I thought it best to enter the photo below showing EGGS and RED.
