BioLite, a different stove
Many of the kitchens especially those that use some type of solid fuel or some dry element such as firewood or dry branches, are somewhat complicated in their operation and can also emit smoke uncomfortable for both the person who is cooking and also means abuse to the environment, so the following device is designed to completely eliminate this type of problems because it reuses all combustion to enhance the device. I'm talking about the BioLite a kitchen that promises to be more supportive of the environment.
This project involving a private company in conjunction with the United Nations aims to comply with the program to promote clean energy before the arrival of 2020, it is estimated that at least 3000 million people cook with fire using wood or wood and other products to generate combustion. This is a waste of energy power making it necessary to use wood constantly, which means a great impact that has left deserted forests as a result of logging, as is the case in Haiti.
The design of this kitchen works with a fan that allows the forced entry of air, this means that it can boost more combustion by making the heat used more to prepare food, can also take a fraction of the energy generated by heat and transform it into electrical energy reaching a power of 2 watts sufficient to recharge a smartphone, some models of lamps with LED technology, and some devices that use a minimum charge of electricity.
Although this lamp uses as fuel, manure, wood, sawdust, rice husks or dry weeds, it uses at least 50% less fuel material and can also mean 95% less polluting emissions of greenhouse gases. Evidently, it is not a kitchen to use inside the house, it is more oriented to a segment of the population that usually go out to camp or visit rural areas.
Another promising aspect of this device is to minimize the deaths generated by inhaling smoke from burned wood, it is estimated that 2 million people die each year from respiratory diseases such as asthma, pulmonary emphysema and severe obstruction of the lungs, another positive point is the low impact that will mean using this kitchen with which deforestation will be reduced.
If we take into account the goal of being able to distribute in countries where wood is still cooked, there are 3000 million people we are talking about at least half of the world's population, I do not think the idea is bad, what seems bad is the idea of generating a device without eradicating the problem from the root, rather should invest in clean electrical systems that provide electricity to those 3000 million people, by the way that is the same amount of people living without electricity in the world, a figure nothing conservative if we take into account an overnight satellite search on Google maps where you can see that the big energy consumers are the "developed" countries that have the privilege of having electricity 24 hours a day without interruption.
The change is not bad to start but I would like to see more initiatives to end the problem, many of the natural resources used by Europe, Asia, and the United States are extracted from those countries where these deficiencies are present and many more. Laws should be applied that allow these countries to obtain technology in exchange for the sale of natural resource
