The treasure of friendship
The great philosophers, poets and thinkers have always extolled friendship as one of the great values that someone can have.
Having true friends is one of the most beautiful experiences we always remember in our lives, since friends are part of our existence and our lives. At the age of adolescence and youth, friends are as important or more important than our parents.
The great philosophers, poets and thinkers have always extolled friendship as one of the great values that someone can have. The book of Proverbs tells us: "There are better friends than a brother" (Prov. 18, 24). And the book of the Ecclesiasticus says: "Whoever finds a friend finds a treasure" (Eccles. 6, 14).
The truth is that to have a good friend, is to have a great wealth since the riches are not found like that, as well as the friends. Being a good friend or finding one are the two most difficult things in the world, because they suppose the renunciation of two selfishness and the sum of two generosities. They suppose, in addition and mainly, a double respect to the freedom of the other, and this yes that almost is to request a miracle.
However, when only the other is sought for the interest, those people are not friends; They are on order only for a while and when it suits them and at the time of sacrifice they flee. They do not mind destroying the moral and ethical principles of the other. They are false and hypocritical. They are dominant and nullify others. That is why Proverbs says: "There are friends who are only a ruin" (Prov 18:24). For the false friends many young people have gotten into the well of drugs, vice, alcohol and has led them to flee from the same family. Many false friends have broken even their own principles, their morals and their personality.
Jesus had friends, lived with them, shared with them and loved them to the end (Jn 13.1), until they gave their lives for them (Jn 15, 13). But, as always, Jesus impressed us by his absolute freedom, even in front of his own friends: Judas did not allow him to be a charitable "boxer", when Jesus knew he was truly a thief (John 12, 4-8) .
He spoke to Juan and Juan harshly because they only thought of seeking their own interest (Mk 10, 35-49) He was outraged against the twelve because they prevented the children from approaching him (Mk 10, 13-16). He answered harshly because he did not want to let his feet be washed (Jn 13, 8-9), and in the Gospel of this Sunday he even calls him "Satan" because he wanted to separate him from his path of fidelity (Mark 8, 32-33). ).
Jesus is capable, and so he did, of giving up his life for his friends (Jn 13: 1); but he never allowed them to turn him away from fulfilling his mission or to lead him down paths that were not those of the Father. A good friend is a great treasure, it can do us a lot of good; but a bad friend is a ruin, he can do us a lot of harm.
