Steem greetings @everyone and welcome toy blog as I share ideas on the topic “one picture 1 story”. My story will be about the notion of markets in the African context.

Bamemda City Main Market Entrance Gate.

In the developed world, it is uncommon to see markets, rather there exist shopping malls and supermarkets. However, in the African context, we most often prefer buying from our local markets than malls or super markets.

There are several supermarkets in my city but we prefer buying from our local market. The Bamenda city main market was constructed by the city council with over a thousand shops. They leased out these shops to different businessmen and women who then developed their shops to be fit the kind of goods and services offered to their customers.

The market is well organised with each section of the market having specific goods and services offered. The shops are numbered and each section of the market has a unique name to help customers to easily find their way around the market.

In the market, there are shops selling at wholesale prices while some shops sell at retail prices. It all depends on the quantity of the goods you intend to buy.

Another good thing about our local markets is that your bargaining skills are very essential. Not like in the supermarkets or the mall where prices are static.in our local markets, you got to negotiate and bargain for the best prices.

Also, you can easily buy directly from the producers or from the farmers at lower prices compared to those at the supermarkets.

The position of the market is easily accessible by all means.you can take a cab or a bike or better still use your private car. The market is around the commercial street with all the financial institutions available. In case you run out of cash, you can easily withdraw from the numerous ATMs around the commercial street.

In sum, I prefer our local markets to supermarkets because the prices are moderate and you can bargain unlike the supermarkets.

I will invite @crismenia, @m-fdo, @aviral123 and @josepha to participate in the contest.

Speaking about supermarkets, my kid sis told me that is quite rare you see fresh vegetables and the rest, to cook Africa dishes in the developed country. it’s mostly frozen veggies and you won’t really get the taste you need after cooking.

So, is a plus on our side, when it comes to having fresh stuff in the market.

Yeah, because they are perishable goods and transporting them from Africa makes them never fresh. Some Africans prefer to plant it and try it if it grows well because not all soils and weather conditions favour the growth of such African vegetables.
