WOX Travel Contest - Trip to Pravets

The town of Pravets is located in Western Bulgaria in the Sofia region. It is the administrative center of Pravets Municipality. The population is about 4,500 people, who are mostly Eastern Orthodox Christians. Pravets is located at about 440 meters above sea level in the Pravets valley. The climate in this area is temperate continental. The name of the city comes from an old Bulgarian word, which in translation means "straight road". Sights that can be seen in Pravets are: the historical museum, the museum complex, the soldier's monument, the Russian monument, which is placed on the hill, the Monastery "St. Theodore Tiron" and many others. The town of Pravets is located about 50 kilometers from Sofia capital.

I noticed an abundance of fish in the lake, maybe they are carp. There were also free-swimming ducks, whom we fed with bread.

On the opposite side of the lake there is a golf course that has been built and there were several families playing.

Bees collected pollen from daisies and other blooming flowers.

After this walk, I decided to ride my bike to the monastery, which was very close.

Pravets Monastery "St. Theodore Tyrone"

The monastery is at a distance of about three kilometers from the town of Pravets. Not much is known about his history. It was rebuilt in 1866, as it was destroyed in 1736, and consists of three buildings. It is interesting about the church that no wood was used in its construction, only bricks and stones. The facade of the monastery is single-nave, there are reliefs and bas-reliefs on it. There are several fountains in the courtyard of the monastery, and there is also an external icon of "St. Great Martyr Theodore Tron". Inscriptions can also be seen at the windows, which are carved into the stone. From this place there is an eco-path that leads to the town of Pravets.
