Listening To Nature - #ecotrain #adsactly

in #ecotrain6 years ago (edited)

Nature has always spoken to me, ever since I was a child.

One of my earliest memories of listening to nature communicate with me was when I sat outside on the back door step with an umbrella in the rain, just so I could listen to the raindrops above my head on the umbrella. I would have been about 4 years old at the time.

To this day, I still love to sit outside in the rain under my gazebo just so I can listen to the soothing sounds of the rain. I even have an app on my tablet which plays different rain sounds for when I need to relax or I can’t sleep!

I remember going through a particularly tough time as a young teen and I would head off to the riverside to escape from the upset.

There was a small bridge hidden in the hedgerows and I would sit on the steps surrounded by the bushes and listen to the river flowing and cry until the hurt went away. I felt safe. I felt as though nature was consoling me. I felt as though I was being listened to and not being judged.

I love to spend time in woodland surrounded by trees and birds, walking peacefully with my dogs with nobody else around.

I feel safe, even though I perhaps shouldn’t do; being a woman on my own in the middle of nowhere! But I do feel safe. I feel at peace. I love to listen to the trees talking to each other in the wind and the birds singing their songs to the world without asking for anything in return other than respect.

This is a crazy way to think about nature, but since @wwf pointed me in the direction of a book called ‘A language older than words’ by Derrick Jensen, I have been transported back in time to a time when these things didn’t seem crazy to me. I had forgotten about these moments until reading a particular passage in the book where the author writes of speaking to the stars.

To this day, nature is a huge part of my life. I live in the woods and prefer to be surrounded by animals and wildlife than humans. I know that this life is all about relationships, but I truly prefer my relationships with non-human entities to human ones. I guess this is something I still need to work on.

I am learning so much at this time in my life.

You would think at almost 40, I would know the way the world works by now. But we are brought up with lies and only learn the truth if we question everything we have ever been taught. The more I learn, the less I know to be true.

My instincts tell me to bury my head in the sand and hide away from the responsibility I am waking up to, but now that I am awake to these truths, I cannot ignore them. One thing I know for certain is that the Earth deserves respect and I can start by having my say and living my truth. We must all learn to listen to nature again, no matter how crazy it sounds!

Nature is something that we should all cherish and respect. I hope to one day be able to live off the land and I would like to be able to say that I nurtured it and left it in a better way than I found it.

If we all respect the land and appreciate what it offers us and nourish the land in return as thanks, perhaps we can even reverse the damage we have done so far. Wouldn’t that be amazing…

Thank you for reading.

Much love, @beautifulbullies xx

That is so kind of you guys! Thank you so much! :D x

I can imagine the sounds of nature help you. The sounds of nature are pure! I always feel like they clean my ears from rubbish.

haha that is so true! It is cleansing to just allow yourself to absorb the sounds of nature and hear what the world is telling us <3

Congrats on being post of the day on Adsactly!!!

That is so awesome that you love nature. :) It is pretty awesome isn't it? Great photos too!! I really like the pathway one, that looks like such a pleasant place to walk. I grew up in California, exploring places like Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, Red Wood Forests, etc. So amazing. I love the outdoors! :) Someday I will make it over to the UK to explore.

That sounds perfect to me! We should do a house swap so you can explore the UK countryside and I can explore the national parks there! haha You can't beat spending time with mother nature, she is a true healer :)

hahaha that would be awesome!! The closest National Park to me in Arizona is The Grand Canyon....5 hours away. Now that place is amazing. Funny thing is since moving here, I haven't been, the last time I was there I was like 12 years old or something. haha. But Arizona in general has many places to explore, then California, and Utah has lots of cool National Parks, etc. so much to see. haha

It is great to be selected as the post of the day by @adsactly! Upvoted for support of your article! Good content deserves to be acknowledged and recognised! Cheers!

That photo f the trees with the path really speaks to me. I love the water, but the mountains and trees really seem to resonate with me. I grew up with a lot of problems as a teenager, but there was really nowhere to be alone other than my room so I spent a LOT of time there.

I think that wore off on me, because I still do that to this day. Of course I live in Oklahoma where I get eaten alive by mosquitos if I dare to go outside for a moment.

I need more nature. Your photos make me feel at home. Gorgeous. Thank you for sharing.

What a wonderful post. I almost missed it because I'm off traveling about and am sporadic at best on steemit.

Maybe because I grew up a farm boy, maybe just because, but I am happier on any day that I spend more time outside than in. The last week I spent in the North Woods in Wisconsin. Four days of that was just me and my dog. We walked every day, and talked to lots of things. Even the deer flies even though those weren't the nicest conversations.

I'm really glad to see you making this journey. Thank you for sharing it.

hi @bigtom13! Long time no see! Glad to see you are off on your adventures! :D haha I would have loved to hear the conversations you had with the deer flies xD I am sure they were getting a stern telling off! I love the idea of disappearing for days into the woods with just my hubby and my dogs for company. We bought a tent last year to do exactly that, but we still haven't used it yet! What a waste! I think with the summer holidays around the corner, we may have to look at using it for the first time :)

@byn I hadn't realised I was mirroring the behaviour of my past until I started to read the book, it really hit home that nature pretty much saved me as a teen. You defo need to head into nature more, it might help to relieve some of your anxieties x

I wish there was 'nature' around here that didn't involve getting eaten alive by mosquitos. I want to move to the mountains!!! Unfortunately my time with nature is just yard work at the moment. It's just too hot for me to be outside unless I have to be.

That is a shame. Hopefully one day you will be able to move closer to nature <3

Thank you. That's the plan someday! Our youngest has one more school year and if finances allow, we want to head to the mountains to live again!

I'm with you on this! lol. I don't do well being surrounded by people, but you stick me out in the woods.. I'll there for hours. It's so calm and peaceful it's hard not to fall in love with it, minus bugs lol!!.
I think this year more than others, I've just been soaking up as much as possible when it comes to rain and thunderstorms. I know for my littles and I to go to bed a lot of time.. I play nature sounds. We normally have fun trying to figure out what noise is coming from what creature.
And I can't blame you for wanting to bury your head in the sand. Too much negativity and lies, like you said, has taken over. Sadly. :(
Well I hope that you at least get to enjoy this day! Soak it all in! <3

It is a beautiful day today and once I have been food shopping and stocked up on healthy yummies, I will be heading into the woods to enjoy the day! Have a beautiful day too! :)

Lovely... Nature is like a mother, we find comfort, healing and peace. Nature has a lot of beautiful unspoken things. Thank you for the nice words @beautifulbullies. X

Beautiful writing and great post :) I feel comfort and peace being in the nature as well.

beautiful thought. Beautiful pics and beautiful writing. Yes, living in harmony with nature is the only right way !

Hi Neha! Great to hear from you, I have missed you! :D I am guessing this summer has been very busy for you. Thank you for your kind comment and I agree with you, we all need to live in harmony with nature, it is the only way :) x

I am just unable to be here regularly. Come here sometimes. Miss you too 💕. Always love your photos and posts.
