Marvel's Spider-Man by Insomniac Games. The feeling of superhero freedom, which was not anywhere

Closing his press conference at E3 2016 with the announcement of the video game about Spider-Man, Sony directly hinted to all fans: the blockbuster about the famous superhero must (no, must) take an honorable place in the iconostasis of exclusives for the Japanese console. In addition, despite the fact that good games for well-known superhero franchises are rather an exception to the rules, after passing the game you acknowledge that the creators of Spyro and Resistance succeeded. The new Spider-Man is another sleek, exclusive PlayStation 4 shining to a shine. Perhaps not without problems and precisely without the genius of games from Naughty Dog, but with familiar characters, huge Manhattan and the atmosphere of Sam Raimi films.

Technically and ideologically, Spider-Man is another game created after the familiar Sony manuals.

In short, this is a third-person action game with a powerful technical part on the level of other bright exclusives for the PlayStation 4. Today, immense games that must justify every ruble invested in the purchase are in honor and Spider-Man fits perfectly into this genre.

Around the 15-hour storyline of Peter Parker, in which both the Osborne family and Aunt May are with Mary Jane, and several compulsory mummers supervillains, secondary activities branch out that can easily stretch the passage of the game in half. Moreover, it seems that Sony has separately asked the Insomniac studio not to make a bobble, but to diversify the Spider's adventures to the maximum so that any means will not bore the player, and the studio will try its best.

In addition to traditional flights across Manhattan and battles with thugs of various suits, there is a lot of everything here: stealth missions, missions for other heroes, and completely unexpected secondary stories. In one of them, it is necessary, for example, to catch and neutralize naturally a streamer, in the other - to save the city from gas pollution, in the third - to calculate the missing students from photographs. There are also obligatory for such games collectible items hidden in the landscape of the city, and clearing of armed roadblocks. There are even towers, but not as annoying as in games from Ubisoft.

You cannot count the total, it distracts a little from the passage, but it is impossible to completely ignore the additional activities on the map. For their implementation, they give the multi-colored, let us say, resources that are needed for pumping or buying new costumes, teaching the main character new techniques and upgrading spider gadgets.

From such an abundance of opportunities and additional tasks dizzy, but in Spider-Man, they are not surprisingly annoying.

Many of them can generally be performed along the way; more ones that are detailed can be left for later and passed after the completion of the main plot. However, most importantly, these activities cope with the main task: to diversify the passage of the game as much as possible. In addition, it works: despite the long storyline, Spider-Man manages to stay fresh and entertain the player from the beginning to the very end.

From Insomniac got and Manhattan, which here looks very lively. In the streets go ordinary people and gangsters (from the latter can be easily snatched on the face), accidents and incidents (another minor branch of tasks) happen all the time - the thugs rob a collector's Rafik, they will break into the bookstore for a new volume of Dan Brown, then simply arrange a shootout with people in uniform at a busy intersection.

Spider-Man gives a completely fantastic feeling of superhero freedom, which was not anywhere.

The city is quite large, there is even a function of fast moving, but, my God, how nice it is to just fly, clinging to the web for houses. In addition, despite the fact that the virtual Manhattan here is not as good as the open worlds in games from Rockstar or CD Projekt, it is just the wind in the face when flying through a busy metropolis that Insomniac can forgive all the problems.

In addition, they are, and the main - in the story. The history of Spider-Man is not so bad, but it is a collage of sketches from comics, animated series and, first of all, from Sam Raimi’s paintings, more or less combined into a coherent story. If you are familiar with film screens at least, then there will be no surprises for you in the plot of Spider-Man - all guns will fire just when they are supposed to. Trailers easily guess all the main plot intrigues of Spider-Man, the story frankly lacks unexpected conflicts, and it seems that Insomniac was simply afraid to add something from themselves.

There are other disadvantages: for example, there appears a whole ensemble of canonical villains, but despite the venerable timekeeping, none of them are really allowed to finish. Some missions are quite boring, in others - there are problems with the behavior of heroes and enemies. Certain plot twigs break off in half a word, some heroes appear and disappear from the story too quickly, without really introducing themselves or saying goodbye.

All this is not so much significant flaws (the main story is still not bad) for such an extensive and showcase game based on such a famous franchise, but you always want more. Especially against the background of the almost flawless performance of the other important elements.

The only technical flaw Insomniac could not overcome was a twirling camera. No matter how cool the stick is, it is in Spider-Man’s in no way copes with moving jerks and somersaults of the main character.

It uses a fairly obvious for such games, the system of non-stop combat and at the speed of Spider-Man, with his cobwebs, gadgets and constant legwork on the walls, coping with the review is not very easy. On the other hand, pushing the hero is very easy, and after a few hours of active patrol of New York, you no longer pay attention to a camera that is not perfect, handing out cuffs blindly. Especially if you do not choose the highest level of complexity.

Spider-Man turned out much better than it seemed on that very E3 2016. This is a very beautiful, voluminous game that you can easily fall in love with only flying over Manhattan. The authors did not succeed in everything, but the problems of Spider-Man are the problems of a very good game that could have been made even better. There is no genius and attention to the smallest details for which Naughty Dog is famous, the ambivalence and complexity of “Batman” from Rocksteady, but the game from Insomniac does it in another territory - this is almost an ideal summer blockbuster, which, however, was released in the first days of autumn. Easy, swift and not at all boring. Owners of the PlayStation 4 can only congratulate: for one great exclusive they have more.
