Dear @steemchurch community. In today's post I want to reflect on humility, what the Holy Scriptures tell us about what it means to be humble. The Bible describes humility as meekness, humiliation and the absence of the ego. In Colossians (3:12) appears the word humility that translates from Greek and means "humility of mind", this is how humility is an attitude, it is more than an external demonstration, humility is an attitude but of the heart.

Therefore, as God's chosen ones, saints and loved ones, dress yourselves with affectionate affection and kindness, humility, kindness and patience,

Many speak about humility and say they are humble, but in their hearts they harbor feelings of pride and arrogance, in their hearts they wear anger, insolence and vanity. In Matthew (5: 3) Jesus tells us that those who are poor in spirit would obtain the kingdom of heaven

Blessed are the poor in spirit, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

But what does it mean to be poor in spirit? Does this poverty refer to the concept that we traditionally know? To be poor of spirits means to admit that only, and only, with an absolute ruin of the spiritual condition, will we inherit eternal life. So being HUMBLE, is a sine qua non condition of being a Christian.

When we realize that the world has only offered us vain sufferings and joys, we seek refuge in Jesus and to enter this celestial world we must come with our sinful condition and we must come in humility. Recognize that we are poor and beggars of the Spirit, because what is the use of material wealth if we can not feed the spirit? Therefore, we must address our new life, if nothing, only with our need for salvation.

By recognizing that we do not have enough merit and are unable to save ourselves. It is there, when The Creator offers us grace and mercy, and we accept with humble gratitude these invaluable gifts and commit ourselves to live for and for Him and others. As 2 Corinthians (5:17) tells us:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, it is a new creation. The old has gone, it has become new!

The Creator has exchanged our ineptitude for His infinite merit, and we must not forget it, just as our sin has been exchanged for His righteousness, and our new life, we live it by faith to Him, to His Son, who loves us and gave Himself himself for all of us and our sins:

Galatians (2:20)

With Christ I am crucified together, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me; and what I now live in the flesh, I live in the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

There, true humility can be highlighted.

The Holy Scriptures tell us that humility is necessary to enter the kingdom of heaven and is also necessary to be great in the kingdom of God:

Matthew 20: 26-27

But among you it should not be like that. On the contrary, he who wants to become great among you must be his servant, and whoever wants to be the first must be a slave to others;

There Jesus is presented as our model to follow. The teachings of this great Teacher illustrate that he did not come to be served, but to serve, so we must be us, we must serve others and commit ourselves.

Philippians 2: 3

Do not do anything out of selfishness or vanity; rather, with humility consider others as superior to yourselves.

As we see this attitude of humility is opposed to the ambition, vanity and selfish struggles that come with self-justification and self-defense. Our Teacher, Jesus, was never ashamed to humiliate Himself as a servant John (13: 1-16):

Jesus washes the feet of his disciples
The Easter festival was approaching. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world to return to the Father. And having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. *
The time for dinner arrived. The devil had already incited Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his control, and that he had come from God and was returning to him; So he got up from the table, took off his cloak and tied a towel around his waist. Then he poured water into a bowl and began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel that he wore around his waist.
When he arrived in Simon Peter, he told him:
"And you, Lord, are you going to wash my feet?
"Now you do not understand what I'm doing," Jesus answered, "but you'll understand later.
"No!" Protested Pedro. You will never wash my feet!
-If I do not wash them, you will not have part with me.
-Then, Lord, not only the feet but also the hands and the head!
"He who has already bathed does not need to wash more than his feet," Jesus replied. for all his body is clean. And you are already clean, although not all.
Jesus knew who was going to betray him, and that is why he said that not everyone was clean.
When he finished washing their feet, he put on his cloak and went back to his place. Then he told them:
-Do you understand what I've done with you? You call me Master and Lord, and they say well, because I am. Well, if I, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, you should also wash each other's feet. I have set an example for you to do the same thing that I have done with you. I assure you that no servant is more than his master, and no messenger is more than the one who sent him.

Even on the cross he maintained his attitude of humility:

Philippians 2: 8

And when he manifested himself as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death, and death on a cross!

His humility consisted in being obedient to the Creator, so every humble Christian must be willing to put aside all selfishness and hold on in obedience to God and His word. True humility produces piety, contentment and security.

The Creator has promised to give grace to the humble, while the proud resist them:

Proverbs 3:34:

The LORD mocks mockers, but shows his favor to the humble.

1 Peter 5: 5

Likewise, young people, submit to the elders. Let everyone be humble in their mutual treatment, because "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

At all times we must cultivate humility, dislodge ourselves from that arrogance, that vanity that is very characteristic. We must for our own good humiliate ourselves before the creator and so he will give us more Grace

Luke 14:11:

Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Jesus in John 13: 1-16, washes the feet of his disciples and

When he finished washing their feet, he put on his cloak and went back to his place. Then he told them:
-Do you understand what I've done with you? You call me Master and Lord, and they say well, because I am. Well, if I, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, you should also wash each other's feet. I have set an example for you to do the same thing that I have done with you. I assure you that no servant is more than his master, and no messenger is more than the one who sent him.
